Trojan Bowling MHSAA Regional Results 2021
Updated on 06/10/2022
2021 Boys Regionals are in the books.
Senior Brad Earnest finished his high school career with a four game series of 653, averaging 163 for the day which is a little over his 155 regular season average.
Junior Tyler McNalley shot 593 total/148 average for the day, a little over his 144 regular season average.
Junior Tyler Stoessel shot 588 for the day, which was a bit under his regular season average. He kept fighting even when it wasn’t fun, and he has had a superb season overall this year. We’re big fans!
Sophomore Brian Wilkinson shot 733 total/185 average for the day, close to his 189 regular season average. His shoes were misbehaving and throwing him off balance five ways from Sunday; if it weren’t for that we’re confident he would have been much closer to the cut for states. He’s going shoe-shopping!
Freshman Alex Szajner shot 622 actual/155 average for the day, nicely over his 144 regular season average.
Senior, Ondrea Ream had a good day but unfortunately did not move on to states.
We have had a very positive season this year, and we’re already looking forward to building on it for next year.
We’d also like to give a HUGE shout-out to our cross-town team, TC West. We’re always competing with one another, and we are also always united and TC strong at home and away. We were on adjacent pairs (the teams were arranged alphabetically), and so we had the huge pleasure to watch junior Jeremy Decker shoot a perfect 300 during the last game! What a rush! Jeremy is the Division 1 Region 2 boys champion as well.
Trojan Bowling Conference Results for 2021
Updated on 06/10/2022
Here are the Trojan Bowling Conference Results for 2021 from Coach Vreeland:
2021 Conference Team Tournament: This one was just for bragging rights for the day and one more chance to bowl as teams. Our varsity team, including Brad Earnest, Tyler McNalley, Ondrea Ream, Alex Szajner (making his varsity debut!) and Brian Wilkinson won the 6 Baker Game tournament with a total score of 1,115! Individual games were 181, 161, 223, 179, 193, and 178...a pretty good set and that 223 is fabulous! Nice work, gentlemen!
2021 Conference Singles Tournament: The top 10 finishers in each gender won additional points towards the year long rankings and contest to make Dream Team and the All-Conference Teams.
Ladies: Ondrea Ream finished 2nd and added 35 more points to her season standings. She shot 176, 203, 147, 177, 175 and 170 for a 1,049 6 game total, only 57 pins out of first. Abby Hill shot a 681 series, which is a little over her season average. Rowan Bura shot 567, with only 1 game under her average and was about 12 pins over average for the day, which is a pretty good margin!
Gentlemen: Brian Wilkinson finished 4th and added 25 points to his season standings. He shot a total of 1,083 pins (202, 179, 160, 153, 171, 218). Paco Haas finished 6th with a 1,071 series (165, 114, 232, 201, 126, 233) Three games over 200 is a good start towards what needs to happen at regionals! Special congratulations go to Alex Szajner who came out strong in the first game and shot a new personal record 232!
2021 Conference Awards:
Ladies:
Congratulations to Ondrea Ream for finishing third overall in the conference and earning her spot on Dream Team back! She averaged 169 this season, just 8 pins of average off the first place finisher. She won 10 of her 14 head-to-head matchups, her high game was a 214, and her high 2 game series was a 404.
Congratulations also to Abby Hill who was named to the Division 1/2 All-Conference Team. Abby is completely new to competitive bowling, and in 11 weeks has worked her way up to a 113 average, a high game of 160, and a high series of 276! She finished 23rd over all in the conference and 8th in Division 1/2. What a great start to her bowling career!
Gentlemen:
Congratulations to Brian Wilkinson, who finished 4th overall in the conference (Dream Team!) and third in Division 1/2. He won 10 of his 14 matchups, averaged 189, and had a high series of 444. His high game of 253 earned him a medal for high boys' game of the season!
Congratulations to Paco Haas, who finished 5th overall in the conference (Dream Team!) and 4th in Division 1/2. He also won 10 of his 14 matchups, averaged 176, had a high game of 214 and a high series of 415. Paco was a standout bowler for many years in the youth league, and we were disappointed when he took a few years off right as he was entering high school. We are SO GLAD you came back, Paco!
Congratulations to Tyler Stoessel, who finished 8th in the conference overall and 6th in Division 1/2, earning a spot on the All-Conference Team! Tyler has been one of our steadiest high performers this season. He won 10 of his individual matches, averaged 166, had a high competition game of 224 and high series of 379.
Congratulations to Brad Earnest, who finished 14th in the conference and 9th in Division 1/2, earning a spot on the All-Conference Team! Brad also won 10 of his 14 matchups, averaged 156, had a high game of 243 and a high series of 422. Not a bad way to finish his conference career!
And, congratulations to rookies Danek and Alex Szajner. They won medals for winning the most individual matchups in the conference at 13 out of 14! Great way to start your careers!
Plus our varsity boys finished second in Division 1/2 with a 6-1 record, the best overall win-loss record in the conference. The only reason we didn't win the conference was that we went 1-2 in our division, although we came very, very close. Next year....
Our JV boys finished with a perfect 7-0 record, the best JV boys' win/loss record in the conference!
Our Varsity ladies went 2-5 which is actually pretty good considering that they were bowling with only 2 or 3 ladies and most other teams had more complete squads. We need to get a few ladies who didn't return this year back next year and recruit a few more!
Overall, it's been a pretty amazing season. I'm eager to see what we can do at regionals and how we can continue to build the program next season!
Trojan Bowling Results from March 11, 2021 Meet
Updated on 06/10/2022
Boys Varsity falls to TC West 14-16, Finish 8-1 for the regular season
This match was incredibly tight right down to the wire. the Titans narrowly took the first Baker game 187 to our 175. We came back and took the second Baker game 190-145, which was enough to also earn the points for the Baker Series total 365-332. At this point the Trojans had 6 points to the Titans' 4.
In the first regular game, Brian Wilkinson put up a very strong 236, followed by Paco Haas with a nice 193. Tyler Stoessel, Paco, and Brian won their head-to-head matchups and we won the team game by only 11 pins, 892-881. We were ahead in match points, 13-6.
The second game found several of our fine gentlemen struggling. Paco led the team with a 185, followed by Ondrea Ream with a 172. But the Titans poured it on strong to win the game 904-780, and Ondrea was the only person able to outgun her opponent and take our final point.
TC West Varsity Girls over TC Central 29-1:
Our two fine rookie ladies were up against a full squad of five, at least two of whom were returning bowlers this year. In the first game Rowan Bura turned in a 106, which is 22 pins over her average. Also in the first game, Abby Hill hit a new personal record by shooting a wonderful 160 game. She had 7 marks in a row including a double! We really need to get some of our veteran ladies who didn't bowl this year back and recruit some new ladies so that next year we have a full squad - or two - who can rock and roll together!
JV Boys win against Glen Lake 30-0, finish a 9-0 undefeated season!
Our JV squad capped off what has been a very strong regular season in amazing style. Our Baker game scores were 141, 170. Turning to the regular games, Brad Earnest was in the zone, shooting 243, 179 for his best day of the season. JJ Hintsala was perfect in the Baker games, shooting strikes in all four of his frames. His second game score was a 194 that was fun to watch unfold. Danek Szajner was well over average for each game (159, 148). Alex Szajner (138, 149) and Carson Fryer (157, 152) were solid and consistent for the day.

TCC Varsity Boys win against Glen Lake Varsity Boys 19-11: This was the tightest match we’ve had all season; a real nail-biter. We won the first Baker game 149-142, but fell in the second Baker game 144-182 with Glen Lake winning the Baker series. Then things got REALLY exciting, as Brian Wilkinson got the front 8 strikes in his first individual game on his way to a 253! He added a 188 second game for a nice 441 series. Ondrea Ream shot 181, 196 for a 387 series, with Tyler Stoessel adding a 174 first game. Mr. Stoessel gets an additional special shout-out for bowling a new personal record in practice this week, a 235 if I recall correctly (and if not Tyler will let me know and I’ll send a correction out!) Next week we face off against TC West Varsity in the match that will determine the Conference Division I/II championship, and we are going for the gold!
TCC Varsity Girls fall to Glen Lake Varsity Girls: Rowan Bura and Abby Hill were up against 4 Lakers, and they played their very best. That’s an accomplishment by itself when you are feeling a little lonely! Abby had a solid day shooting 127, 110, and Rowan shot a new competition high of 115! Also a special shout-out to Abby who bowler her new personal record in practice this week...a 155! Both ladies have made a LOT of progress so far this season.
TCC JV Boys win against TC Christian JV Boys 26-4: The team started off with a very nice 169 Baker game. JJ Hintsala shot the best JV series including the highest and 4th highest games on the squad of the day, a 351 (164, 187). Alex Szajner added a nice 175 first game, followed closely by Brad Earnest with a second game 173. This squad has been solid all season!

Week 5 Recap - BOYS TEAMS ARE BOTH STILL UNDEFEATED!
Boys' Varsity wins 29-1 vs. Bellaire: The Trojans got off to a strong start with a 362 Baker series (182, 180). Paco Haas led the squad today with a 415 series (213, 202), Tyler McNalley added a 165 game and Brian Wilkinson contributed a 162 game.
Girls' Varsity wins 28-2 vs. TC West JV: Our three ladies matched up with their two. Ondrea Ream shot a 347 series (186, 161) to lead the way. This is our second win of the season, and winning with only a partial squad is always exciting news.
Boys' JV wins 28-2 vs. Cadillac JV: Our four gentlemen took on their two. High games for the day were Alex Szajner with a 177, Carson Fryer with a 166, and JJ Hintsala with a 160. Special shout-out goes to Danek Szajner who couldn't have had a rougher first game. He came back and shot 20 pins over average for his second game, Most bowlers of any age have trouble climbing out of really deep holes the way he did, and it deserves to be celebrated.
Current Rankings: This week I've ranked all of our bowlers in one list, You'll also notice some decimals for a change. Officially averages always round down, which can be annoying, but we have a couple of spots where the decimal makes a difference this week.
We have said that a primary driver of who plays on varsity and who on JV is average rankings, and that it's not the only factor we consider. As we go into the final two weeks looking to win both matches to cement the boys Division I/II Conference Championship, the pressure is on. Coach John and I will be looking not just at averages to measure who's performing highly, but also for who's performing consistently

Boys’ Varsity wins at Cadillac 22-8; season record stands at 4-0!
This was an important meet for us, as we need to win our matches with the other two teams in Division I and II in our conference, West and Cadillac, to win the Conference Championship. We are now halfway there with our win against Cadillac! Plus, of the three teams we are the only ones undefeated. The conference championship for Division I/II is decided first by the division win/loss percentage. If there’s a tie, the first tiebreaker is the overall win/loss percentage, and if needed the second tiebreaker is total pins bowled for the season.
We split the Baker games, with Cadillac winning the two-baker series by 20 pins. Our second Baker game had a score of 176. Leading the regular games today was Brian Wilkerson with a great 444 series (211, 233) and winning both his points against the currently top-ranked boy in the conference. Paco Haas and Tyler Stoessel each added a 176 game. Everybody won their point in the first game, and our team scores for the individual games were 808, 815 for a 1623 series, about 150 pins for the series over Cadillac. Gentlemen, your coaches are very proud of you!
Girls Varsity wins vs. Cadillac 29 1/2 - 1/2
For some of you that’s a surprising score...if two girls tie in their head to head match they each earn half a point for the team, and that happened today. The really exciting news is that our shorthanded ladies’ team was able to win their first match, with both teams having only 3 ladies playing.
Ondrea Ream lead the team with a 334 series (160, 174). Abby Hill had a fabulous day on the lanes with a 276 series (145, 131) and a new PR! Rowan Bura also raised her average today with an 84 and a 113, her first 100+ game in competition. Our rookies are coming along nicely, and our veteran is keeping her eyes on the post-season prize, and we’re very proud of you too!
Boys JV wins vs. Glen Lake JV 28-2, season record 4-0!
Our four boys were matched up against two Lakers in the Baker games and only one Laker in the regular games. Our gentlemen were very consistent today. Top games were contributed by Danek Szajner (155, 145), Brad Earnest (152), Alex Szajner (151), and Tyler McNalley (145). A true team effort, and our JV squad also remains undefeated!

Trojan Bowling Results from January 29, 2021 vs TC Christian and Glen Lake
Updated on 06/10/2022
Boys Varsity tops TC Christian Varsity 28-2!
The Trojans started their season strong with two solid Baker games (177, 165), followed up by regular team games of 815 and 911. High game, well over his average, on the varsity squad goes to junior Tyler McNalley (229), followed closely by rookie junior Paco Haas (214). Junior Tyler Stoessel added a 192 in the second game, well over his average from last season. Senior Brad Earnest started off with a 187 in the first game, and sophomore Brian Wilkinson contributed a 180 game as well. Tyler M. and Paco were awarded lapel pins for shooting 220+ and 200+ games respectively.
Boys JV tops Glen Lake JV 28-2!
Both the Trojan and Lakers JV teams were playing shorthanded, yet with enthusiasm. Huge shout-out to the high Trojan scorer of the day, freshman Carson Fryer who threw a 230 (his new PR) in the first regular game and earned a 220+ lapel pin (see picture!) Freshman Alex Szajner is off to a strong start with games of 147 and 170, with fellow freshman and brother Danek Szajner adding a 151 game. The competition for weekly spots on the varsity squad is going to be fierce this year!
Girls Varsity falls to TC Christian 30-0
Girls varsity this year is playing at half strength with only 3 ladies (full squad is 5). When we are playing full squads, the scoring system will make it hard to win meets, so we are concentrating on personal development. Senior Ondrea
Ream is making another bid for the conference Dream Team and another trip to the state finals. Even with an injury to the thumb on her bowling hand this week she threw a 151 game (Coach is not at all sure she'd do as well with the same injury!) Rookie senior Rowan Bura made her debut with the team tonight even though she hasn't been able to practice with us yet, which shows dedication, courage, and openness that we admire! Rounding out the team, rookie sophomore Abby Hill really impressed us tonight. After only two weeks of practice and being new to the sport, she had games of 127 (with six marks!) and 103. That's a lot of progress in a very short time!
Congratulations and thank you to each and every one of you...it's a pleasure to coach you, get to know you, and watch you enjoy your successes. It's the start of a great and long-awaited season!
- Coach Vreeland
